Outdoor Activities

In Summer

North Star House’s contiguous 700+ acres include a network of over 9 miles of trails that are open to the public for casual strolls, serious hikes, mountain biking, and horseback riding (no motorized vehicles permitted).

While swimming, kayaking, inner tubing, and fishing (obtain a New Hampshire fishing license online) are available on the property, the more adventuresome may want to check out the many options slightly farther afield:

Great River Outfitters (Windsor, Vermont)…canoeing, kayaking, rafting, fishing, camping, night float trips on the river, and more.

Morningside Hang Gliding (Charlestown, New Hampshire)…hang gliding, paragliding, zip lining

In Winter

Our trails are accessible for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing right from North Star House’s front door! But if downhill skiing is more to your liking, you’ll find several top-notch ski areas in less than an hour’s drive (view map):

Killington (Killington, Vermont)

Mount Sunapee (Sunapee, New Hampshire)

Okemo Mountain Resort (Ludlow, Vermont)

Suicide Six (Woodstock, Vermont)

Of course there are plenty of other wintertime options, too—winter camping, dog sledding, and sleigh rides, just to name a few! These local entrepreneurs would love to help make your visit memorable—snow or no snow.

Fitch Family Farm (Cornish, New Hampshire)

Great River Outfitters (Windsor, Vermont)
